When your horse needs quick relief of a symptom he needs something his body can absorb as fast as possible. Herbal teas can be the perfect solution. Here's why:
Steeping an herb causes that herb to release its volatile oils. Volatile oils are the most effective and healing part of an herb. And since they are in a tea's liquid, they are also what a horse's stomach lining can absorb most quickly.
To steep herbs, simply place in a large container and fill the container with warm but not boiling water. I once used herbal tea strainers but then learned that confining an herb to a strainer or pouch actually inhibits the herb's leaves from unfolding and thus releasing all of their volatile oils. Skode's Horse Treats Inc. began selling teas in 2004. To my knowledge, the company was the first American Company to sell herbs specifically for Equine Teas. It took awhile for the idea to catch on, as people don't normally think connect the dots between the idea of horses and teas! But as time passed and people learned how easy it is to feed tea (simply pour over your horses' feed rations), the teas have gained a reputation as a tasty treat as well as a healing agent, Skode's line of teas has steadily increased.
We are not allowed to claim any success with herbs, as use of herbs has not been approved by the FDA. Currently, Skode's line of all Organic, medicinal strength teas include the following:
