Lately, I have been making the decision to be happy a lot of the time. For me, that means riding my horse, Vashka, on a regular, almost daily basis (he does appreciate a day off every once in awhile!) Yesterday we rode through the California desert, where yellow and orange flowers bloomed against the backdrop of a Cornflower blue sky. I remember watching my friend, Claudia, ride up ahead of me and my eyes took in the silhouette of her on her horse on top of a hill and I thought: I will never forget this.
I used to wait to ride. I waited for the right weather. I waited for the right riding partner. I waited for enough energy.
That last one makes me laugh. Because actually, as a small business owner and a woman who runs her own horse ranch, I never seem to have the energy it takes to ride. Ask my friends: My theme song seems to be: "I'm so tired." Over and over, I say it. Until I get on my horse and ride.
That's when the energy flows. The moment I lift myself up and over my horse, I'm awake. The drone of life as I know it, stops. And the happy dream begins. Yesterday we rode so fast up a hill that the wind tossed and turned around my ears and it was as if we had been dropped into the middle of a very noisy ocean.
A lot of people are talking about manifesting what we want. Lisa Natoli at www.gorgeousforgod.com and the folks over at www.AbrahamHicks.com say that to get what we want in the physical world, we must first feel on the level through in which that thing or experience exists. In other words, if you want to experience the feeling of being abundant, go do something that makes you feel abundant! If you simply wait for the experience to come to you, you will be waiting for a very, very VERY long time. This is The Law of Attraction. In other words, to experience what you want, start experiencing what you want.
"It's about realizing that you are telling a story based on what your body's eyes are showing you (in this moment) and that will give you more of the story you are telling," says my Course in Miracles teacher, Lisa Natoli.
I want to be happy. I want to be abundant. I want to be free.
When I am riding my horse all of these things are my immediate experience. Yesterday, before my ride, I was feeling worried and fearful. When I rode, the desert, with Her sun and her sky and her flowers and rocks and trees -- all of it belonged to me. When I returned from my ride I felt happy, abundant and free. Cookie orders had popped into my online store. Friends had called and left voicemail messages. My neighbor dropped of some Kale and Broccoli for me to plant in my vegetable garden. Some people might say: Well, all those things would have happened anyway.
Maybe they're right. But the point for me is that in my meantime, I was happy, abundant and free. I wasn't waiting. I transported myself where I wanted to go.
Everyone (I hope) has their own way of transporting themselves into their very own, very happy dream. One of my friends paints. Another meditates. I practice the lessons in A Course in Miralces and ride my horse.
What do you do?
